While all attention has been on Wisconsin lately Michigan Republicans passed a controversial law of their own. The new law passed by the Michigan state legislator gives the Governor of Michigan martial control over the state.
Here are some of the details:
The Governor can decide by himself to declare an economic emergency in anytown or city in Michigan, and can then fire the officials elected to run said town and appoint an Administrator to take over.
But thats not the kicker:
The appointed administrator can be any person the Governor chooses to appoint, or can be a corporation. Thats right, the Governor can simply fire an elected official and appoint any corporation he chooses to take over control. Once appointed the administrator has the power to do anything they need in the name of economic stability. This means an appointed corporation can void collective bargaining agreements, void contracts, dissolve school boards, town councils, and even unincorporate the town.
Even more concerning is the fact that residents get absolutely no say any any of these decisions.
